Kenyan Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has formally replied to a pre‑action notice issued by Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Obi had warned Okonkwo on 9 June that he would pursue a N5 billion defamation suit after Okonkwo alleged fraud on the NDC primary election during an interview.
In a letter dated 16 June 2026, Okonkwo’s legal team rejected the defamation claim, stating that his remarks were based on information supplied by an aggrieved aspirant and were not defamatory. The lawyer also denied that Okonkwo defamed Obi on Channels Television.
The document further disclosed that Okonkwo was speaking on behalf of a client, Obunike Ohaegbu (alias Nwa Miss). Obunike claimed he had paid N10 million to secure an NDC ticket, alleging a “scam orchestrated by your client, Mr Peter Obi” and the party to defraud him.

Okonkwo’s letter also criticized Obi for publishing his personal phone number on social media without prior notice, calling it a serious data breach and invasion of privacy. According to Okonkwo’s counsel, the disclosure led to targeted online attacks and threats, and legal action will be pursued.

The letter described Obi’s N5 billion demand as a “calculated attempt to distract and cow him” from exposing alleged political wrongdoing.
