Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has completed a surprise transfer to newly promoted Turkish Süper Lig side Bursaspor, Afrik-Foot reports.
The move which was announced on Friday evening, caught many football fans off guard. Iheanacho enjoyed a memorable spell at Celtic, where he was instrumental in their Scottish Cup and Scottish Premiership triumphs.
Many expected the Scottish giants to pursue a permanent deal to retain his services for the upcoming season, but Bursaspor acted decisively to secure his signature.
Iheanacho joins a long list of Nigerian players to have represented the club, including Mikel Agu, William Troost-Ekong, Shehu Abdullahi, and Taye Taiwo.
Why the Move Makes Sense
It is no exaggeration to say that without Iheanacho, Celtic might not have secured the Premiership title last season. His goals during the closing stages of the campaign were vital — he was the definition of “clutch.”

However, Celtic’s hesitation spoke volumes. It became clear that the club did not fully value his contribution, and there is little benefit for a player to remain where their worth is not recognized.
A Fresh Start in Turkey

At a newly promoted club like Bursaspor, the pressure will be more manageable, allowing him to settle quickly.
The pace and physical demands of Turkish football should suit Iheanacho’s technical profile perfectly. Also, his tactical versatility — whether deployed as a central striker or in a deeper creative role — will allow his coach to integrate him effectively into the team.
A Path Back to the Super Eagles, Maybe?

If he delivers consistent performances, a return to the national team setup is highly likely, especially given the current struggles of other Nigerian forwards across Europe.
Turkish fans are famously passionate and supportive of players who deliver. So if Iheanacho finds his form, Turkey could quickly become his new footballing home.
