Kefas reinstates 3,187 dismissed workers, approves recruitment of 1,500 civil servants

…Says exercise to address workforce gaps, federal character imbalance

JALINGO — Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has approved the reinstatement of 3,187 civil servants who were previously dismissed after being identified as ghost workers.

The governor also sanctioned the recruitment of an additional 1,500 civil servants into the state workforce.

Commissioner for Information, Zainab Usman Jalingo, announced the decision on Thursday during a briefing to journalists following the State Executive Council meeting.

She said the affected workers will receive new appointment letters and will be fully reintegrated into the state civil service under regularised employment terms.

Head of Service, Dr. Hamidu Kara, also spoke about the reinstatement, describing it as a “Sallah gift” from the governor to workers impacted by the state’s verification exercise.

Kara noted that the decision reflects the governor’s commitment to fairness and the welfare of workers.

Regarding the new recruitment drive, he added that advertisements will soon appear in national newspapers to invite applications from qualified indigenes of the state.

He said the recruitment aims to correct federal character imbalance across the 16 local government areas of the state and to fill gaps created by previous employment exercises.

He also added that the exercise will strengthen manpower capacity within the state civil service.
