The Kebbi State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has announced a timetable for elections to its local government chapters, following the expiration of the current council executives’ terms across the state.

State Chairman Ahmed Rufai Abubakar Khalifa revealed the plan during a media briefing at the Kebbi State Ministry of Youth and Sports in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.

He said the elections are being organized in accordance with the council’s constitution to ensure a smooth leadership transition and the continuity of youth development programmes throughout the state.

Khalifa noted that the official notice for the elections became effective on June 5, 2026, and the sale of nomination forms will begin on June 6.

He added that the elections for the local government chapters are scheduled to take place between June 27 and June 28, 2026.

The chairman emphasized that eligible candidates must be 35 years of age or younger and must meet physical, mental, and educational qualifications to contest any position.

He also stated that aspirants are required to possess at least a school leaving certificate as part of the eligibility criteria.

In a move to promote gender inclusion, Khalifa announced that the positions of Deputy Coordinator and two other executive offices have been reserved exclusively for women.

He urged young people in the state to actively participate in the electoral process and contribute to the council’s growth.

The chairman also called on youths to support security agencies by providing useful information that could help address insecurity and maintain peace across the state.
