Following the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction report issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, the Kaduna State Government has stepped up public awareness and emergency preparedness initiatives.

The report lists Kaduna as one of the states facing a high flood risk because of projected above‑normal rainfall during the 2026 rainy season.

In a statement from the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, the government said it is bolstering proactive measures to protect lives and property through coordinated sensitization and disaster‑response programmes.

The forecast predicts that rainfall in Kaduna State will begin between 19 May and 10 June 2026, and will end between 5 October and 21 October 2026.

It also warns of a possible severe 21‑day dry spell between June and August, which could aggravate flooding and other environmental problems.

“The Kaduna State Government is taking this forecast seriously. Early preparedness and public cooperation remain critical to reducing the impact of flooding on our communities,” Malam Maiyaki stated.

He added that the Ministry of Information and Culture, together with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), has launched a statewide sensitization campaign to teach residents about flood prevention, mitigation, and safety.

The Commissioner urged residents to clear drainage channels around homes and businesses, refrain from dumping waste into waterways, and employ preventive measures like sandbags and other locally available flood‑control solutions.

He also appealed to traditional institutions, religious leaders, media outlets, civil‑society groups, and other stakeholders to aid the government by promoting environmental sanitation and sharing verified information.

The statement further noted that KADSEMA has started vulnerability assessments in flood‑prone communities, enhanced emergency‑response coordination, and begun pre‑positioning resources for rescue operations in high‑risk zones.

“The safety of citizens remains a top priority for the Kaduna State Government. We will continue to work with all relevant agencies and communities to ensure timely information dissemination and effective disaster risk reduction measures throughout the rainy season,” the Commissioner added.
