The Katsina State Government has suspended Nura Aliyu‑Garwa, a former Senior Special Assistant on Community Development to Gov. Dikko Radda, after allegations linked him to a kidnapping syndicate.
Dr Bala Salisu‑Zango, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, announced the suspension in a statement to the media on Monday in Katsina.
The statement said Aliyu‑Garwa was suspended before he sought an elective position.
Aliyu‑Garwa is among suspects allegedly connected to the kidnapping of an eight‑year‑old boy at Sardauna Estate in the Katsina metropolis.
The government noted that he had previously been suspended over alleged involvement in diverting empowerment materials intended for communities in Batsari Local Government Area under the state’s Community Development Programme.
It added that the suspect had later declared his intention to contest a seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly for Batsari Constituency.
The statement recalled that the Katsina State Police Command had earlier presented suspects linked to the kidnapping syndicate believed to be responsible for the abduction of the minor.
Gov. Dikko Radda described the development as unfortunate, especially given the suspect’s profile and past public service record.
The governor praised the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their efforts in combating insecurity and criminal activity across the state.
He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities. (NAN)
