Katsina shuts POS, bans jerrycan fuel, motorcycles

The Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate shutdown of all Point of Sale (POS) outlets and commercial phone‑charging centers located in the Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas.

It also prohibited the sale, purchase, transport, and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans throughout the state, and banned motorcycles in the same two local government areas.

Governor Dikko Radda announced the measures in an Executive Order that followed an emergency security meeting involving security agencies, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders.

The governor’s chief press secretary, Ibrahim Kaula‑Mohammed, released the information in a statement issued on Tuesday in Katsina.

According to the governor, the directive represents new measures aimed at curbing banditry and kidnapping.

He said that security assessments revealed that POS outlets and commercial phone‑charging centers in Matazu and Musawa were being exploited by criminal networks to facilitate their activities.

Radda added that the ban on petroleum products in jerrycans was intended to prevent the diversion of fuel supplies to criminal elements operating in remote areas.

He further said that restricting motorcycle use in Matazu and Musawa was intended to disrupt the movement and operational activities of bandits and kidnappers, who often rely on motorcycles for transportation.

Radda emphasized that the safety of lives and property is the highest priority of his administration and assured residents that the government would continue to work closely with security agencies to restore lasting peace and stability across the state.

He urged residents to fully comply with the directives and to support security agencies by providing credible information to aid ongoing operations.

The governor warned that violators would face the full force of the law.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to taking all lawful and necessary measures to keep communities across the state safe, secure, and conducive to economic and social activities.
