Kano Fire Service Reports 58 Fires and 13 Fatalities in May

The Kano State Fire Service reported 58 fire incidents and 13 deaths across the state during May 2026.

These figures were released in a statement issued on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

In the statement, the Service Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, summarized the agency’s operational activities for the month.

He said the Service responded to 80 emergency calls between May 1 and May 31, covering fire outbreaks, rescue operations, and false alarms.

“Out of the total calls received, 58 were fire incidents, 15 were rescue operations, and seven were false alarms,” he added.

The Director noted that the 13 deaths came from different incidents, including fire outbreaks, road accidents, and incidents involving ponds and wells.

Despite the losses, he highlighted that the Service was able to save several lives during the period.

“We successfully saved 34 lives during our rescue operations across the state,” he said.

He also revealed that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire, while a larger value was saved through timely intervention by firefighters.

According to him, the estimated value of property lost stood at over ₦144 million, while property worth about ₦437 million was saved.

Alhaji Anas urged residents to take fire safety seriously and handle fire‑related activities with care to reduce the number of incidents.

“We are calling on members of the public to adopt proper fire safety measures to prevent avoidable disasters,” he said.

He assured that the Kano State Fire Service remains committed to protecting lives and property through quick response, public awareness, and preventive measures.
