A 35‑year‑old woman named Abigail Moses was arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on allegations that she misappropriated N6.7 million belonging to her employer.
Moses, who lives in Kabala West, Kaduna State, faces two criminal charges: breach of trust and misappropriation.
Prosecutor Leo Chidi informed the court that the case was reported on April 28 by Kingsley Vincent at the Gabasawa Police Station in Kaduna.
According to the prosecution, Moses, who worked as a secretary for Vincent & Sons Trading Company Nigeria Ltd, allegedly diverted N6.7 million that had been generated from sales proceeds.
Chidi said the company’s audit uncovered the alleged misappropriation after Moses failed to provide a satisfactory explanation of the funds.
Moses pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Presiding Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted her bail of N1 million, secured by two sureties each contributing an equivalent sum.
The court required the sureties to reside within its jurisdiction and to provide evidence of three years of tax payments to the Kaduna State Government.
The magistrate also ordered that one of the sureties be a blood relative of the defendant.
The case was adjourned to June 25 for further hearing.
