Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State said that delays in establishing state police forces have caused many deaths in the country.

Sani made the comment on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*.

The governor was speaking about the Senate’s passage of the bill to create state police.

“Every day we postpone the creation of State Police, we continue to lose lives. I cannot recall any true federalist country that does not have both state and federal police forces,” he said.

He added that there are many safeguards to prevent governors from using the police against political opponents.

“I am pleased to announce that the bill to amend the constitution for the establishment of state police in Nigeria was passed today, and I am confident that this will be welcomed by all Nigerians,” he concluded.
