Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Osun State used the 33rd anniversary of June 12 to spotlight growing security concerns across Nigeria.
On Friday, the CSOs staged a peaceful procession through key parts of Osogbo.
Advocacy groups such as the Osun Civil Societies Coalition, Take It Back Movement, Coalition Against Insecurity and Bad Governance, and the Federation of Informal Workers Organisations of Nigeria called for better safety and protection of citizens while marching along major roads in the state capital.
The march began in the Ayetoro area of Osogbo and passed through Igbonna, Olonkoro, Old Garage, Oke‑Fia and Olaiya, drawing the attention of residents and traders along the route.
Participants carried placards and sang solidarity songs, using the occasion to voice concerns over incidents of insecurity affecting communities nationwide.
During a stop in Igbonna, activist Kola Ibrahim explained that the march was organised to highlight the growing fears among citizens.
He said the protest was driven by “the increasing insecurity in the country and the need for authorities to address the situation.”
The groups noted that the June 12 anniversary offered a chance to remind leaders of the importance of protecting lives and ensuring that Nigerians’ democratic rights and safety remain a priority.
