Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen could see his future determined by Atletico Madrid’s decision to turn down Real Madrid’s €150 million bid for Julian Alvarez, Afrik Foot reports.
Fresh off a trophyless campaign, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez had promised supporters a blockbuster signing following his re-election as Real Madrid president.
Alvarez quickly emerged as the latest name linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, with Los Blancos prepared to spend as much as €150 million on the Argentine forward.
Atletico Madrid’s response was swift. The Rojiblancos rejected the proposal outright and reminded their city rivals that Alvarez remains under contract until 2030 with a €500 million release clause, as per Marca.

1. Se os cortó el vídeo del Papa donde decía que también era del Atleti.
2. Habréis confundido la educación con agradecimiento, pero para que no haya dudas: no os agradecemos…
While Alvarez appears set to stay put at the Metropolitano, the failed pursuit could have significant consequences elsewhere in the striker market, particularly for Victor Osimhen and Barcelona.
What Atletico Madrid’s response means
Atletico’s stance sends a clear message to the rest of Europe. Diego Simeone’s side view Alvarez as the cornerstone of their project and have no intention of selling him regardless of the size of the offer.
The Argentine justified that faith by scoring 49 goals and providing 17 assists in two seasons since he joined from Manchester City.

Barcelona may find themselves in a similar position. The Catalan giants have long been linked with Alvarez as they prepare for life after Robert Lewandowski, but Atletico’s response effectively closes that door, and that is where Osimhen enters the conversation.
Why Victor Osimhen re-enters the picture
With Alvarez seemingly unavailable, Europe’s elite clubs are left with a limited pool of world-class strikers to pick from.

The Super Eagles striker scored 22 goals for Galatasaray last season, more than Alvarez achieved. The ex-Napoli man also did that in 20 games fewer than the Argentine’s.
Osimhen’s physicality, aerial dominance and relentless pressing make him a profile that very few clubs can ignore.
Barcelona’s need is perhaps the most obvious. Alvarez would have been an ideal long-term successor to Lewandowski, but Atletico’s refusal to negotiate means the Blaugrana may have to consider alternative targets, although it’s tougher since they’ve already splashed €80m to secure Anthony Gordon’s services from Newcastle United.
Osimhen offers something different. Where Alvarez thrives through movement and combination play, Osimhen brings a more traditional No. 9 presence capable of transforming an attack almost single-handedly.

If a signing is guaranteed to happen, it means a big name in Madrid’s attack will exit the Santiago Bernabeu.
Is Barcelona become Osimhen’s best option?
The Catalans need a long-term focal point in attack. They also require a player capable of leading the line immediately rather than one who needs several seasons of development.
At 27, Osimhen is at the peak of his powers and arrives with proven experience in the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Turkish Super Lig, Serie A, and the UEFA Champions League.

That development may not guarantee a move for Osimhen, but with Alvarez remaining untouchable and Erling Haaland living life in Manchester, the Super Eagles striker is set to become the centre of attention when clubs kick-start their search for a striker when the transfer window opens.
