Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan met with Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio in Freetown on Tuesday.
The meeting was part of a broader set of engagements aimed at promoting peace, democratic governance and regional cooperation in West Africa.
Jonathan announced the visit in a statement posted on his social media account that day.
He said the trip was undertaken in his role as Special Envoy of President Bola Tinubu, as well as his involvement with regional democracy initiatives.
“Today, I paid a special visit to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio. Our discussions focused on issues of mutual interest and matters relating to peace, stability, democratic governance, and regional cooperation within the West African sub‑region,” Jonathan said.
“I deeply appreciate President Bio for the warm reception, gracious hospitality, and conviviality extended to me during our fruitful engagements,” he added.
Daily Post reports that the visit followed Jonathan’s clearance by an Abuja Federal High Court to run in the 2027 presidential election.
