Nollywood icons Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo received the Industry Merit Awards at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2026, a ceremony sponsored by Johnnie Walker. The event took place at Eko Hotel and Suites on Victoria Island, Lagos, where Godfrey Adejumoh, Diageo South, West and Central Head of Corporate Relations, and AMVCA head judge Joke Silva presented the honors to the two veterans in recognition of their long‑standing consistency, talent, hard work and cultural influence within Nollywood and the broader African entertainment sector.
Sobowale, celebrated for her powerful screen presence and memorable performances, has become one of Nigeria’s most respected and influential actresses. Her career exemplifies resilience, reinvention and excellence, serving as an inspiration to generations of actors and creatives across the continent.
Similarly, Kanayo’s distinguished career—marked by versatility, longevity and dedication—has cemented his status as one of Nollywood’s most iconic performers. Through years of compelling storytelling and standout roles, he has contributed significantly to the growth and global visibility of the Nigerian film industry.
Their journeys reflect the perseverance and continual development that underpin the brand’s “Keep Walking” philosophy. The awards also underscored Johnnie Walker’s ongoing commitment to nurturing creativity, honouring excellence and supporting individuals whose paths motivate others to pursue greatness.
“The AMVCA has always stood for excellence in African storytelling and this year, we wanted to go beyond the glamour to celebrate and recognise moments of arrival that mark the journey toward meaningful destinations,” said Ifeoma Agu, Head of Culture, Influencer and Advocacy, Diageo South, West & Central Africa.
Beyond the ceremony, Johnnie Walker enhanced the celebration by co‑hosting the exclusive Blue42 after‑party with headline sponsor Don Julio. The event gathered filmmakers, actors, industry leaders and cultural tastemakers for an evening dedicated to African talent, marking the first collaboration of two world‑renowned premium spirits brands to honour the continent’s creative sector and setting a new standard for recognizing excellence.
Attendees experienced an elevated Johnnie Walker whisky tasting that featured a range of the brand’s premium expressions. Expert mixologists crafted bespoke cocktails while dynamic performances kept the atmosphere vibrant throughout the night.
Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck delivered a standout set, and media personality and dancer Liquorose added excitement and star power. The celebration was further amplified by renowned DJs—including Dope Caesar, Titanium and Shawn—alongside other notable entertainers and personalities.
