The Jigawa State Government reiterated its dedication to deepening partnerships with traditional institutions and community leaders to build trust and cooperation in the state's security efforts.
Governor Umar Namadi announced this during the opening of a two‑day paper presentation and interactive session for participants of Senior Course 48 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, which took place in Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, Dutse.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Governor, Engineer Aminu Usman, the governor emphasized that community engagement is essential for tackling contemporary security challenges and that the military alone cannot manage security.
He added that the government has been reinforcing ties with traditional rulers, community leaders, and grassroots security bodies to foster public trust, enhance intelligence collection, and encourage peaceful coexistence.
“We have strengthened our engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders to build trust, enhance intelligence gathering, and promote peaceful coexistence. We also support grassroots participation in security initiatives,” he said.
The governor said that community policing structures, intelligence‑sharing mechanisms, and cooperation with local leaders have helped Jigawa maintain relative peace and stability, allowing the administration to concentrate on development areas like education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic empowerment.
He observed that the study tour’s theme, “Promoting Community Engagement for National Security and Prosperity,” was timely and pertinent to the nation’s current realities.
“The involvement of communities as active stakeholders is indispensable. Security challenges in the modern world are increasingly complex and require strong collaboration between the armed forces, civil authorities, and the communities they serve,” he added.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, greeted the participants and described the college as one of Nigeria’s premier institutions for training operational and strategic leaders.
He added that the study tour would give participants a chance to exchange ideas and gain practical experience in governance, security management, and intergovernmental collaboration.
The SSG reiterated the Jigawa State Government’s commitment to enhancing citizens’ welfare through investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, and economic development.
Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, the delegation’s leader, also spoke, describing Jigawa as peaceful, hospitable, and development‑oriented.
He explained that the state was chosen for the exercise because of its reputation as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful and stable states.
