The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State announced that 90 percent of its House of Representatives primary candidates were selected through consensus arrangements.
Chief of Staff to the Government House in Dutse and Chairman of the Dutse/Kiyawa Primary Election Committee, Senator Mustapha Makama, made the statement while discussing the conduct of the party’s primaries.
Makama clarified that Jigawa was the only state to successfully adopt the consensus method at the first stage of the primaries, in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Earlier, the Jigawa State Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Ahmed Garba, reported that primary elections were held in only four of the state’s eleven federal constituencies.
The constituencies where primaries took place were Dutse/Kiyawa, Ringim/Taura, Kafin Hausa/Auyo/Hadejia, and Gumel/Gagarawa/Sule Tankarkar/Maigatari.
He added that candidates in the remaining constituencies were chosen through affirmation after stakeholders reached consensus agreements.
Hon. Garba praised party supporters for their orderly conduct during the primaries, which were conducted across 287 political wards in the state.
Meanwhile, the national delegation of the APC assigned to monitor the party’s primary elections in the North‑West zone expressed satisfaction with the emergence of all candidates in Jigawa State.
Isa Sadiq Achida, leader of the delegation and North‑West Zonal Secretary of the party, said the committee’s mandate was to ensure that all candidates emerged in accordance with the law.
Earlier, the delegation’s secretary, Sambo Bello, explained that the team consisted of two committees – the Election and Candidate Inauguration Committee and the Appeals Committee – established to guarantee peaceful and transparent primary elections across the North‑West zone.
