Wataru Endo believes Japan can make a significant statement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Completesports.com reports.
Although the national team has appeared on the global stage multiple times, it has never advanced beyond the round of 16.
Endo Optimistic Japan Will Shine
Endo remains convinced that the current squad possesses the ability to overcome this hurdle.
“I want people to see us play and think to themselves ‘maybe those guys could really go and win the whole thing,’” Endo told FIFA.
Past Achievements Key To Success
The captain’s confidence stems from Japan’s performances at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022.

Japan defeated both Germany and Spain in the group stage, a result that captured global attention.
Endo feels the tournament marked a turning point for his country’s standing in international football.
“I think that beating Germany and Spain was proof that we’re genuinely a strong side,” he said.
Players Ready To Shine
Another major step forward was the shift in the players’ mindset.
“After Qatar, a lot of us started thinking that we’d like to play more proactive football and take the initiative out on the pitch,” Endo said.
Japan are drawn in Group F with Sweden, Tunisia, and the Netherlands.
