Israel carried out airstrikes against targets in Iran in response to a series of missile attacks on its northern regions, marking a new surge of violence in the Middle East that strained an already fragile ceasefire.

Iranian state television reported that explosions were heard in Isfahan, Karaj, Tabriz and Tehran.

The strikes followed a claim by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that it had fired ballistic missiles at the Ramat David Airbase in northern Israel on the evening of June 7.

The IRGC stated that Israel had used air‑launched ballistic missiles in its attack on Monday morning.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had detected missiles launched from Iran toward northern Israel and that its defensive systems were actively intercepting the threat.

"A short while ago, the Israeli Air Force struck military targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in western and central Iran," the Israeli military said.

Iran had fired ballistic missiles at northern Israel for the first time since the April ceasefire on Sunday.
