ASABA—The Isoko Monitoring Group (IMG), a non‑partisan organization, has called for the immediate restoration of the Isoko North Constituency 2 State Assembly seat by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The group also urged stakeholders within the Isoko ethnic community to intensify efforts toward producing a governor of Isoko origin in Delta State in 2031.
In a statement released after its meeting, IMG stressed the importance of unity across political, clan, and ideological lines to achieve this shared objective.
“For decades, Isoko has contributed significantly to the economic and political development of Delta State through our oil and gas resources, human capital, and loyal service. Yet our aspirations for the governorship seat remain unfulfilled,” the statement read. “The time has come for all Isoko people, irrespective of party lines, clan, or political differences, to speak with one voice and pursue this collective goal,” added the statement signed by IMG’s President, Dr. Oke Michael, and Spokesperson, Dr. Kingsley Oroh.
Regarding political representation, the statement added: “While we pursue the governorship project, we also pledge our total commitment to the immediate restoration of the Isoko North Constituency 2 State Assembly seat by INEC. This seat is the rightful representation of our people and must not be lost to political gerrymandering and neglect.”
“We call on stakeholders from Isoko North, party leaders, and the people of Constituency 2 to close ranks, build consensus, and ensure this seat returns to Isoko hands,” the statement continued. “The restoration of Constituency 2 is not negotiable – it is a foundation for greater political bargaining power as we push for the governorship in 2031. No Isoko North Constituency 2, no strong Isoko voice.”
IMG also urged the Delta State Government, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), and relevant authorities to urgently restore and improve electricity supply to the entire Isoko nation while the I32 kVA substation at Ozoro is completed.
“For too long, our communities have suffered prolonged blackouts despite hosting oil and gas infrastructure that powers the state and nation,” the group said. “The absence of stable power is crippling small businesses, healthcare delivery, education, and youth productivity across Isoko land. We demand immediate action on repairs, metering, transformer replacements, and fair distribution.”
“Isoko people deserve the dividends of democracy and the light that reflects the energy resources beneath our soil,” the statement concluded.
