The Nigerian insurance sector entered a period of mourning following the death of Rotimi Edu, the 21st President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB).
Mrs. Ekeoma Ezeibe, the current President of the NCRIB Council, announced a week‑long period of remembrance for the late former president.
The Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA) described Edu as an exceptional leader, an astute legal mind, and a visionary insurance practitioner who devoted decades of his career to advancing, integrating, and regulating the insurance industry in Nigeria.
During her condolence visit, Ezeibe issued the one‑week mourning directive for NCRIB members.
She noted that a condolence register had been opened at the Council’s Secretariat and advised all members to observe at least one minute of silence at noon each day throughout the mourning week, praying for the repose of the 21st President’s soul and for strength for his family during this loss.
Meanwhile, the Governing Council and the entire membership of the NIA expressed profound sorrow and deep shock at Edu’s passing.
In a statement signed by NIA Chairman Kunle Ahmed, Edu was again praised as an exceptional leader and an astute legal mind.
