The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has amended its official records to comply with a court order, restoring Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe as the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) recognised national chairman.
INEC’s portal now lists Gombe as the party’s chairman, following the court’s directive to reinstate his status. Prior to this change, the commission had mistakenly recorded the removed chairman as the SDP’s leader, a move that sparked internal dispute within the party.
According to the updated leadership roster on INEC’s website, the SDP national leadership is now shown as:
National Chairman – Professor Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe (by court order)
National Secretary – Dr. Olu Agunloye
National Treasurer – Hajia Maggie Mariam
National Financial Secretary – Bello Ado Huseni
National Legal Adviser – Aderemi
This correction is likely to affect ongoing discussions about the SDP’s internal leadership arrangements and could influence the party’s administrative and political direction in forthcoming engagements.
At the time of the update, INEC’s portal displayed Gombe as the recognised national chairman in line with the court ruling.
