The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti has begun distributing sensitive election materials in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the distribution occurred at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Ado‑Ekiti.

The process began at 8:00 a.m., overseen by State Resident Electoral Commissioner Mr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, and was observed by several security agencies and monitoring bodies.

These agencies comprised the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Immigration Service, and the Department of State Services.

INEC officials designated for each of the state's 16 local government areas signed for and collected the materials assigned to their councils, then loaded them into vehicles awaiting police escort.

During a briefing with journalists, Omoseyindemi characterized the exercise as seamless and reiterated INEC’s preparedness to hold a violence‑free, credible, and transparent election.

He noted that the distribution began early and was closely supervised to guarantee the materials reached their intended destinations promptly and in good condition.

Omoseyindemi also urged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers to exercise their civic duty for their preferred candidate on Saturday.

Likewise, Mr. Abayomi Shogunle, the Commissioner of Police overseeing the Ekiti governorship election, encouraged voters to exercise their franchise freely, without fear of harassment or intimidation.

He explained that the police had established a comprehensive security framework that includes voters, election monitors, observers, and both regular and ad hoc INEC staff.

Shogunle advised journalists to verify information before publishing and pledged to cooperate with the new electoral act to address vote buying and related offenses. (NAN)
