Before Saturday’s senatorial by‑election in Rivers South‑East, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began distributing sensitive electoral materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Port Harcourt.

During the exercise, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Rivers State, Dr. Johnson Alalibo, told reporters that all sensitive items had been secured properly and remained intact, with no evidence of tampering.

He added that the materials would be transported under heavy security to the seven local government areas where the election will take place.

Alalibo expressed confidence that INEC is fully prepared to conduct a credible, transparent and peaceful election on Saturday.

He urged political party agents and election observers to remain vigilant and to prevent any individual or group from compromising the process.

The exercise was overseen by INEC National Commissioner for Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom States, Prof. May Agbamuche‑Mbu, and included RECs from Katsina, Kano and Adamawa states.

Representatives of political parties, security agencies and other stakeholders were also present as officials sorted ballot papers and result sheets for distribution to the seven affected local government areas.
