The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted a viral claim that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Akwukwu Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, had been suspended because of a malfunctioning machine.
In a statement released on Friday, Mrs. Nseabasi Udom, Head of Voter Education and Publicity, described the report as false, misleading, and not issued by the commission.
INEC clarified that the registration exercise is proceeding according to its approved rotation schedule. It added that the CVR team was deployed to Ibusa earlier on Thursday, where the exercise was carried out successfully.
The commission further explained that the registration centre in Akwukwu Igbo will resume operations from July 6 to 10, in line with the structured local‑government‑area timetable.
Officials urged residents of Akwukwu Igbo and nearby communities to ignore the viral message and rely solely on official INEC communication channels for accurate information.
“Eligible voters were advised to continue with their registration and update exercises as scheduled, without fear of cancellation or disruption,” the statement read.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, credible, and accessible CVR process across the state, assuring all eligible residents that they have an equal opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
