INEC declares Oyebanji the winner of Ekiti governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.

Adenike Oladiji, the Returning Officer for the election, declared the results at about 3:13 a.m. on Sunday. She reported that Oyebanji received 319,224 votes.

Oladiji, a professor and Vice‑Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, also stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Oluwole Oluyede secured 40,543 votes, while the African Democratic Party (ADP) candidate Dare Bejide obtained 12,872 votes.

According to the Returning Officer, 384,940 voters were accredited for the election. Of the votes cast, 375,777 were valid, 6,332 were rejected, and the total votes cast were recorded.

Voting began at about 8:31 a.m. and officially ended at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, with more than 300,000 voters participating.
