Inspector‑General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu visited Oyo State over the weekend to address the tragic terrorist attack and abduction that took place in Oriire Local Government Area on the early hours of Friday, 15 May 2026.
During his visit, the IGP voiced deep concern about the incident and offered heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
He condemned the attack as cruel and unacceptable, and stated that no effort would be spared to restore normalcy to the affected communities.
The IGP also ordered the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence resources to reinforce ongoing operations in the area and the surrounding forests.
While on site, he met with the Commissioner of Police for the Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, and other security stakeholders, receiving operational briefings on the current rescue efforts and security deployments across the impacted communities.
He assured residents, parents, and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, in partnership with other security agencies, has intensified coordinated search‑and‑rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and tactical deployments to secure the safe return of all abducted victims and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to the protection of schools, communities, and all citizens across the country,” he said.
The IGP was accompanied by CP Ojo Adekimi, Commissioner of Police for the Kwara State Command, due to the strategic proximity of the Oriire area to communities bordering Kwara State, and by CP Abayomi Shogunle, Commissioner of Police for the Schools Protection Squad, to further strengthen school safety and coordinate effective response measures.
