‘Igbos Have Contributed Significantly to Lagos’s Economy,’ Says Rapper Illbliss

Rapper Illbliss has called on Nigerians to welcome non‑indigenous residents in their states and to avoid inflammatory remarks against them.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Outside The Box podcast, the “Aiye Po Gan” singer used Lagos’s Igbo community as an example of how non‑indigenous people contribute to development.

Illbliss highlighted that Igbos have made significant contributions to the Lagos economy, even though they are not native to the state.

He said it is regrettable that Nigerians still struggle with tribalism and religious bigotry after decades of living together as a country.

“The Igbos have given a lot to the Lagos economy in terms of trade and commerce. I wonder how this town would be if you told every Igbo man to leave. So, I’m always shocked whenever I hear comments like, ‘If you’re not from Lagos State, go back to your state,’” he said.

“We have no business being where we are as a country. We have no business not being accommodating of each other. But sadly, we are still plagued by tribalism, ethnic and religious divides,” Illbliss remarked.

The rapper added that Nigeria’s situation sometimes makes him wonder whether it should have been a single country in the first place.
