The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has declined a request from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to allow its members to visit Nasir El‑Rufai while he is in custody.

In a letter dated 21 May 2026 addressed to the National Secretary of the ADC in Abuja, the Commission explained that the request could not be granted.

The letter notes that El‑Rufai is currently on trial before two courts: the State High Court of Justice in Kaduna and the Federal High Court, both located in Kaduna State.

Although the defendant is in the ICPC’s custody by court order, the matter is fully before the courts. The Commission clarified that only certain individuals have been authorized to see him.

“The court has granted access to the defendant to his family, doctors and counsels. These are the only category of persons granted access to see the defendant in the Commission’s custody,” the letter states.

Consequently, the ICPC concluded that the ADC’s application to visit El‑Rufai could not be approved.
