ICOBA hosts 1990s reunion, stressingcollaboration to raise standards

The Igbobi College Old Boys’ Association (ICOBA) recently staged a vibrant reunion for alumni who graduated in the 1990s, using the theme “Reconnecting and Strengthening the ICOBA 90’s Decade.”

Chairman of the decade, Noble Habeeb Abdul-Quadri, described the event as a homecoming for the 90s cohort, aimed at deepening fellowship and reviving the bond that has sustained ICOBA over the years.

National President of ICOBA, Chief Yomi Badejo Okunsanya, said the school anthem evoked a strong sense of nostalgia and thanked his mother for allowing him to attend Igbobi College. He urged members to retain their identity after leaving school, reminding them that they are “elephants.”

The atmosphere reached its peak when the school song echoed through the venue. Former students sang with unmistakable joy, a moment participants called both nostalgic and instructive, reminding them of the discipline, camaraderie and ideals that distinguish Igbobi men.

Beyond the music and fellowship, the reunion offered a mix of health, recreation and community bonding, including medical checks, indoor sports, food and entertainment.

Delivering a keynote on the event theme, The Sheriff Adekoya spoke on “Reinvention, Relevance and the Power of our Network: Shaping What we Can Achieve Together in the Next Decade.”

He emphasized that the 90s cohort should move beyond celebration toward purposeful engagement, using their experience, influence and networks to launch new initiatives for ICOBA and the college.

During the health and wellness session, Dr Ekpo Ezechinyere educated participants on prostate enlargement and general wellness, urging alumni to be proactive about health rather than waiting for illness to appear.

In the legal awareness segment, Barr. Abiola Ladipo discussed “Benefits of Writing a Will: Protecting Your Loved Ones,” highlighting how estate planning can safeguard family members and ensure wishes are carried out according to the law.

In a chat with journalists, the first National Vice‑President of ICOBA, Femi Soremkun, said the reunion’s purpose was to bring old boys, especially those from the 90s decade, together to forge stronger connections that will drive the college’s interconnection and development.

Soremkun added that the gathering was intended to help ICOBA set “a no course” for advancing the institution toward international standards.

With music, medical education, legal guidance, sports and networking woven into the program, the 90s decade reunion conveyed a clear message: reconnection is not only about memories, but also about mobilising the collective strength of ICOBA alumni to support the next chapter of Igbobi College.
