‘I’m shocked’ – Maguire reacts after omitted from England World Cup squad

Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire has expressed his disappointment after being left out of England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup by manager Thomas Tuchel.

Maguire admitted he was “shocked and gutted” by the decision, insisting he believed he had done enough to earn a place in the squad following his performances this season.

In a statement posted on social media, Maguire wrote: “I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision.

“I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years.

“I wish the players, all the best this summer.”

Maguire has been a regular figure for England at major international tournaments over the past several years and played key roles during previous World Cup and European Championship campaigns.

However, new England boss Tuchel opted to leave the centre-back out of his squad for the tournament, a decision that has sparked debate among supporters given Maguire’s experience at international level.

Despite his disappointment, the 33-year-old ended his message by offering support to the squad ahead of the competition.
