Nigerian singer Emoseh Khamofu, known professionally as Bloody Civilian, explained why she has not yet considered marriage, despite repeated inquiries from family members about her future plans.
The 26‑year‑old artist shared her perspective on a recent episode of the Not Just On podcast after being asked, “What is one thing your family still does not get about your life as an artiste?”
Bloody Civilian said her career has altered the way she views traditional expectations placed on women, especially those from Northern Nigeria. She revealed that being an artiste has reshaped her worldview and changed her stance on the values she was raised with.
According to the singer, some of the values her family expects her to adopt no longer appeal to her, a reality her relatives still find difficult to comprehend.
“One thing my family still does not understand about being an artiste is that certain conventional things they expect of a woman from the North are simply not things I am excited to do,” she said.
When asked specifically about marriage, Bloody Civilian clarified that it is not something she is currently thinking about, even though the topic is frequently raised by family members.
“For instance, marriage is not something I am thinking of at all. But that question keeps being brought up,” she added.
The artist has earned a reputation for her bold personality and outspoken views, often sharing candid opinions on her life, career and societal expectations.
