Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has disclosed that she recently underwent major surgery, apologising to fans for her reduced presence on social media while assuring them she is on the road to recovery.
The 24-year-old singer shared the update via her Instagram Story on Thursday, explaining that although she initially expected a quick recovery, the procedure turned out to be more complicated than anticipated.
“Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like. I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery but it was more complicated than they expected,” she wrote.
The ‘Rush’ hitmaker, however, did not reveal the nature of the surgery or disclose further details about her health.
Despite the setback, Ayra Starr reassured fans that she only needs time to recuperate before returning to work.
“I just need a bit of rest and I’ll be back!!!” she added.
The singer also urged her supporters to continue promoting her forthcoming project, Starrgirl, asking them to spread the word and place their orders.
“Starrgirl is coming so soooon. I need everyone out there spreading the word. Tell your friends, your family, your neighbours! Order Starrgirl ASAP!!! Love you guys.”
Born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, Ayra Starr rose to prominence in 2021 with her breakout hit “Bloody Samaritan”. Since signing with Mavin Records, she has established herself as one of Africa’s biggest music exports, earning several local and international awards, including Grammy nominations.
