A Bayelsa State lawmaker, Fred Agbedi, has been named the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.

Speaker Abbas Tajudeen announced the appointment on Thursday shortly after the House began its daily business.

Abdusamad Dasuki, a lawmaker from Sokoto State, will serve as Deputy Minority Leader.

Mansur Manu Soro, representing Bauchi State, has been appointed Minority Chief Whip.

Daily Post reports that Fred Agbedi is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mansur Manu belongs to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and Abdusamad Dasuki represents the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The decision concludes weeks of consultations and lobbying among opposition lawmakers regarding the minority leadership lineup.

Earlier, about nine members, along with Ikenga Ugochinyere, the representative for Ideato North and South in Imo State, entered the House chambers chanting “No announcement, No Sitting” over the minority leader position.

Supporters of Ugochinyere for the Minority Leader role include Jesse Okey-Joe from Lagos, Aliyu Mustapha from Kaduna, Afam Ogene from Anambra, and Aliyu Misau from Bauchi.
