Hong Chairman Expresses Concern Over Ongoing Boko Haram Attacks in LG

The Chairman of Hong Local Government Council in Adamawa State, Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda, has warned authorities about ongoing attacks by insurgents on local communities.

Over the past year, Hong has become the most affected local government area in Adamawa due to insurgency, with multiple attacks reported this month.

During a ceremony at the Hong LGA headquarters honoring local men and women serving in the military, the council chairman called for decisive action to stop insurgent attacks.

“Our hearts are heavy because of the insecurity that burdens us,” Wa’aganda said. “Many communities are displaced. This situation is particularly troubling as the farming season begins and farmers are afraid to return to their farmlands.”

He urged the military personnel honored at the event to collaborate, make necessary contacts, and restore security to their homeland.

The grand reception for senior serving and retired military and paramilitary officers in Hong was organized by the paramount traditional institution of the area, the Huba Chiefdom.

In his speech, the paramount ruler, Tol Huba Alheri Bulus Nyako, expressed gratitude to God for the brave military officers the chiefdom is blessed with. He told the officers, “You have brought honour to us and we are proud of you. We appreciate your sacrifices and that’s why we choose to celebrate you.”

The Tol Huba also expressed sadness that his chiefdom has been attacked multiple times in recent months by Boko Haram elements, urging decisive steps by the federal government to halt the menace.

The grand reception, held at Hong Township Stadium, attracted prominent local figures from all walks of life, including elder statesmen from the chiefdom. One of them was 82‑year‑old Major General Haldu Hananiya (rtd), who chaired the occasion.

Hananiya said the honour bestowed on serving and retired military men and women, including those who died while serving the country, serves as a tonic for greater national service.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri noted that the celebrants deserve honour for sacrificing their peace of mind and sometimes their lives in service to Nigeria.

The governor, represented by his Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Istifanus Babadoke, said Adamawa State is proud to have servicemen and women who have brought honour to the state.
