Herdsmen attack Delta community, injuring one as residents call for security intervention

EDJEKOTA — Tension is mounting in the Edjekota Community of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, after a series of attacks by suspected armed herdsmen has left residents in fear.

Pastor Oghenemakpo Uyo, the President‑General of the community, told reporters that the once‑peaceful agrarian area has experienced repeated attacks in recent weeks.

He said the most recent incident took place around 8 p.m. over the weekend, when armed men allegedly attacked a resident and his wife on the Oviri‑Ogor/Edjekota‑Ogor Road.

Uyo added that the victim, a father of a three‑month‑old baby, was on his way home after buying food for his child when he was confronted by the attackers.

He alleged that the assailants demanded the man join them to an unknown destination. When he declined, they reportedly struck him with cutlasses and fired at him, causing multiple injuries.
