Former Nigeria international John Utaka says Victor Osimhen should seriously consider a move to Real Madrid if José Mourinho personally pushes for it, according to Afrik-Foot.

Osimhen remains one of the most sought‑after forwards in European football, and recent reports have linked him with a high‑profile transfer to the Spanish giants this summer.

Mourinho, who is reportedly close to returning to Real Madrid, has identified the Nigerian striker as a priority target as part of a major rebuild at Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid finished the 2025/26 season under Álvaro Arbeloa without a major trophy, prompting club president Florentino Pérez to plan sweeping changes.

Since Karim Benzema’s departure, the club has struggled to find a natural centre‑forward. Although Kylian Mbappé has often played through the middle, the French star has preferred operating from wide positions alongside Vinícius Júnior.

Osimhen is viewed as a suitable solution because of his pace, physicality, pressing ability and aerial dominance. Mourinho has reportedly admired the Nigerian for years and sees similarities between him and former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

Utaka’s message to Osimhen

Speaking to Brila FM, Utaka backed the potential transfer and said Mourinho’s interest alone should persuade the striker.

“If I were Osimhen, I would go because if Mourinho has requested him, it means he really wants him. Osimhen wants to win trophies and Real Madrid is a perfect fit,” Utaka said.

Osimhen has had another outstanding campaign with Galatasaray, helping the Turkish club defend its league title. The 27‑year‑old scored 15 league goals and provided five assists in 22 matches, while also netting seven times in the UEFA Champions League this season.

Despite Real Madrid’s strong interest, competition for his signature remains fierce. Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Paris Saint‑Germain are all monitoring his situation closely.

There is also the possibility that Osimhen could stay at Galatasaray, where he has become a fan favourite in Istanbul, while clubs in the Saudi Pro League continue to watch developments with interest.
