Netflix announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are developing a film based on the best‑selling memoir “No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege,” written by British Major Adam Jowett. The book details Jowett’s leadership of a unit of paratroopers and Royal Irish Rangers during a 2006 mission in Afghanistan.
The project will be produced by Harry, Meghan, and Tracy Ryerson, the head of scripted content for Archewell Productions. Matt Charman, who was nominated for an Oscar for “Bridge of Spies” (2015), has been hired to write the screenplay.
Since leaving the British royal family and relocating to the United States, the couple has partnered with Netflix to create independent content. Their first collaboration, the documentary series “Harry & Meghan,” was well received, but later projects tied to a reported $20 million deal did not perform as expected.
One such project was the lifestyle series “With Love, Meghan,” which followed the former actress as she hosted guests and conducted arts‑and‑crafts projects in a lavish California home. Critics described the show as tone‑deaf and uncreative, and it was cancelled after two seasons.
In 2023, the couple entered a more restrictive first‑look agreement with Netflix.
Harry, the youngest son of King Charles III, served two combat tours in Afghanistan as a member of the British Army and reached the rank of captain before his discharge. The memoir focuses on the fierce fighting in Musa Qala, a town in Helmand province that was a stronghold for the Taliban and an opium‑producing area. Jowett’s mission was to hold the city with a small contingent of British troops.
