Hardship: Democracy Must Reach Every Pocket — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that democratic governance should produce real economic benefits for citizens, stating that “democracy must be felt in the pocket” as his administration implements reforms aimed at raising living standards nationwide.

He explained that infrastructure projects across Nigeria are connecting producers to markets and creating opportunities for enterprise and employment. Tinubu highlighted the National Agricultural Development Fund’s plan to deploy 10,000 tractors over five years to increase agricultural productivity.

In his Democracy Day address, Tinubu revealed that more than 1,000 small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs) have received export certification, and that non‑oil exports grew by 21 percent last year, illustrating efforts to diversify the economy.

Despite these achievements, the president acknowledged that many Nigerians still experience economic hardship. He reiterated the administration’s focus on reducing inflation, boosting food production, creating jobs, improving living standards, and restoring confidence in the economy.

According to Tinubu, the government is working to shift the country “from uncertainty to stability,” with the next phase focused on accelerating growth and ensuring that economic progress reaches households and communities across all regions.

He also announced plans to grant financial autonomy to Nigeria’s 774 local government councils, arguing that weak grassroots governance has contributed to development challenges and insecurity in some areas.

Strengthening local government administration, Tinubu said, is key to addressing insecurity and improving service delivery. He added that the Renewed Hope Agenda is designed to ensure that the benefits of governance reach every Nigerian.
