Lewis Hamilton, the 41‑year‑old Ferrari Formula One driver, announced that he will be cheering for both England and Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.
The seven‑time world champion made the statement before this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, where he is currently fourth in the championship standings.
Hamilton reflected on his long‑standing admiration for the South American side.
“For me, it’s tied with England,” he told the Mirror.

“Honestly, Brazil has always been my favourite team. Growing up in England, I used to love watching Brazil play,” Hamilton said.
“I think it’s the colours, the culture, and the players always just looking the most skilled; they were so cool. I just appreciate where they come from. Many of the players come from the streets where they play with no shoes and there’s something quite special about Brazilian culture.”
The British driver paid tribute to Ayrton Senna by waving the Brazilian flag after his 2021 Interlagos victory and received a race‑worn helmet from the Senna family in 2017.
In 2022, Hamilton was granted honorary Brazilian citizenship, following his earlier expressions of deep connection to the country’s people and energy.
Brazil is the most successful team in World Cup history, having won the tournament a record five times and having participated in every edition of the competition.

It is not uncommon for fans to support more than one national team during the World Cup, and Hamilton clearly holds Brazil in high regard. Brazil will open the tournament against Morocco, Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
Hamilton has also enjoyed a memorable season off the track, celebrating Arsenal’s Premier League title win.
“I think, like for everyone, it was very emotional,” he admitted. “I shed a tear, to be honest.”
