Manchester City has categorically denied the allegations, stating there are no release clauses in Haaland’s contract and is considering legal action over the unauthorized use of their players in the Spanish election.
Haaland’s representatives, Rafaela Pimenta and his father Alfie, have also refuted the rumors.
Despite the backlash, Riquelme remains determined to secure the Man City duo as his marquee signings.
“It’s part of the game. Better than you, nobody knows it. It also happened with Figo; this is part of football,” Riquelme said via his X handle.
“Protecting the player, we had spoken before and after, also with Pablo (Barquero), Rodri’s representative. I know perfectly well that then you have to talk to City. They are different circumstances, Rodri’s than Haaland’s, but you have to talk to City. We have maximum respect for the club.”
