Gunmen attacked the Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday, taking the principal of a secondary school and an unspecified number of students in a bold morning raid.
The assault is reported to have taken place between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, according to local sources.
Witnesses said the armed attackers entered the school grounds and forcibly removed several students, though the exact count has not yet been confirmed. The principal, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, was also seized during the incident.
Additionally, a teacher was reported to have sustained gunshot wounds during the attack, though the extent of the injuries is unclear.
The assailants are said to have fled through a nearby forest reserve that borders the community, using the principal’s vehicle to escape.
Residents expressed frustration over the delayed security response, citing the considerable distance between the community and the nearest police station.
Confirming the event, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, stated that authorities were still verifying the number of abducted victims.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, together with a tactical team, had already travelled to the area to assess the situation and coordinate the response.
