Gunmen believed to be bandits active in Plateau State are reported to have attacked Kogot village, located in the Vwang (Vom) District of Jos South Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of two members of the same family.
According to community resident Jerry Badung, the assault took place at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Monday.
The victims have been identified as Ngo Shettu Badung, aged 78, and Danjuma Badung, aged 52.
He said the assailants entered the village after dark, opened fire on the two individuals, and caused panic as residents fled for safety.
‘People started running when the gunshots began,’ he recounted.
He added that residents were terrified because the attack occurred late at night.
The incident was confirmed in a statement released by Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder‑Association (BYM).
The statement noted that the latest killings occurred amid escalating tensions in the area following the arrest and ongoing detention of eight local guards from Vwang District by security forces.
The association expressed concern over the recurring attacks on local communities and urged security agencies to step up efforts to safeguard lives and property.
Attempts to contact the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, for comment were unsuccessful.
