Gunmen kill three miners in fresh Plateau attack

Gunmen on Thursday killed three miners in a fresh attack along the GSS Daffo Road in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victims were reportedly attacked at about 7:15 p.m. while returning from a mining site at Fubok in Daffo District.

Sources said the gunmen opened fire on the victims, killing all three on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Maren Agom, 45, a native of Tadai Village in Manguna District, who was shot in the head; Joe Buba, 38, a native of Josho Village in Daffo District, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest; and Yellow, whose surname and age could not immediately be ascertained.

The bodies of the victims have been deposited at Alheri Medical Centre, Daffo, in Bokkos Local Government Area of the state.

A source in the community, Peter Maju, said security personnel were immediately notified of the incident and have commenced efforts to track down the attackers, while security has been reinforced in the area to forestall further violence.

The latest attack adds to the growing wave of killings in Bokkos and other parts of Plateau State, where several communities have come under repeated attacks in recent months despite ongoing security operations.

Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, for confirmation were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
