Gunmen Kidnap 9‑Year‑Old Son of Cleric in Ondo Province

Gunmen allegedly abducted a nine‑year‑old boy, Olaosebikan Victor, during a midnight raid on Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The attack is said to have taken place around 1:30 a.m., and residents Olaosebikan Isaac and Joel Owalekan reported the incident to police.

Police accounts describe armed assailants storming the community, firing sporadically and creating panic among residents.

The attackers reportedly entered the home of Olaosebikan Isaac. In an attempt to escape, Isaac fled into a nearby bush, leaving his son Victor behind, who was then taken by the gunmen.

Suspects also allegedly vandalised a building owned by Joel Owalekan while trying to gain entry; Owalekan escaped unharmed.

DSP Jimoh Abayomi, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, said the Divisional Police Officer and his team, together with the Amotekun Corps, moved quickly to the scene and launched a coordinated search‑and‑rescue operation.

Abayomi added that security personnel combed surrounding forests and suspected escape routes in an effort to recover the child and apprehend the perpetrators.

He noted that investigations had begun and relevant evidence had been collected from the scene.

“All tactical teams, intelligence units and other relevant security assets have been directed to intensify efforts toward the immediate rescue of the victim unharmed and the arrest of the perpetrators,” he said.

According to Abayomi, the police command is working closely with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to bring the suspects to justice.

He assured residents that every available resource is being deployed to secure the safe rescue of the abducted child.

Abayomi urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information.

“Anyone with credible and actionable information relating to the abducted child or the suspects is encouraged to report promptly to the nearest police station or other security agency,” he said.
