Gunmen attack police in Anambra, killing two

Violent crime appears to have resurfaced in Anambra after gunmen, whose identities remain unknown, attacked officers of the Anambra State Police Command, killing at least two.

The state had been calm for months following a major crackdown on criminals, particularly gunmen posing as Biafra agitators, until the incident on Sunday night.

The attack occurred on Awa‑Ndiukwuenu‑Ufuma Road, where the assailants allegedly approached the patrol officers and opened fire, leaving two bodies on the main road.

A tricycle operator who was traveling the road that evening witnessed the shooting. He said he heard gunfire, abandoned his vehicle, and fled into the bush for safety.

In a voice note he posted, he said: “After some time, I emerged from the bush and retrieved my tricycle to continue my journey. Then I reached the spot where the incident occurred.”

“Two policemen are lying on the road here, and their police van is parked by the roadside. I decided to make this voice note to post on the platform because I think one of the policemen is still alive, so that anyone who knows police authorities will tell them to go and save their members,” the distressed rider added.

When DAILY POST contacted the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, for a comment, his line was not reachable.

No official police statement has been released regarding the incident as of the time of this report.
