Gunmen Abduct Two Travelers on Idi Ayunre–Ijebu Ode Road in Oyo Province

Two people were abducted yesterday by armed gunmen on the Idi Ayunre stretch of Ijebu Ode Road in Oluyole Local Government Area, Oyo State.

The incident follows the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area just five days earlier, raising concerns about the deteriorating security situation in parts of the state.

Sources say the attackers ambushed the victims while they were traveling toward Ijebu Ode. Witnesses reported that the heavily armed assailants fired repeatedly to intimidate residents, passers‑by and other motorists before carrying out the abduction.

An eyewitness described the gunmen as operating in a commando‑like manner, forcibly taking the victims to an unknown location. No contact has yet been made with the victims’ families, and no ransom demand has been issued.

DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer for the state, confirmed the attack during a telephone conversation with our correspondent, adding that investigations are underway.
