Residents of the Kuntun Bokun area on the Paze axis of Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, are living in fear after a kidnapping incident.
Daily Post reports that on Wednesday, May 15, gunmen entered the community, firing sporadically to intimidate residents before carrying out the attack.
Witnesses say the incident began around 11:40 pm when several gunshots suddenly rang out across the area.
Eyewitnesses heard the attackers speaking Hausa while threatening to shoot anyone seen outside.
One resident recalled that many people initially thought the gunshots were coming from the vigilante group that regularly patrols the area at night.
“I thought it was the vigilantes shooting as usual, so I even texted some people immediately that this random shooting had to stop. Not long after, I heard somebody shouting that they had shot him,” the resident said.
During the attack, a man was taken away by the gunmen, while a young man who sustained gunshot injuries is still receiving treatment.
Residents say the attackers moved through the area on foot, without motorcycles or vehicles.
The incident has heightened fear among residents, especially after another kidnapping case was reported on the Paze axis in March.
Some residents also confirmed that security patrols have increased around Byazhin and neighbouring communities following the recent attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comments as of press time.
