Gun battle erupts as troops chase kidnappers and rescue two victims in Plateau.

Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) troops rescued two individuals who had been abducted by suspected kidnappers in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident was announced in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter‑insurgency and security expert operating in the Lake Chad region.

Makama revealed that the victims, Victor Ibikuzhu and Tongriang Dayok Salihu, were taken on Monday night from Kwang village in Jos North and were later freed during a military pursuit operation.

Security sources reported that troops from Sector 1, Sub‑Sector 12, responded to a distress call and quickly moved to the area together with personnel from the Keystone security outfit.

The report added that the security team initiated a pursuit along routes believed to have been used by the suspected kidnappers.

Makama said the troops later confronted the fleeing suspects, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

The suspected kidnappers allegedly abandoned the victims and fled into nearby bushes after facing pressure from the security team.

“The kidnappers were said to have abandoned the victims and escaped into nearby bushes following the superior firepower of the troops,” the report quoted the sources as saying.

The two victims were reportedly rescued unharmed and reunited with their families shortly after the operation.

Security sources said efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
