Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule formally installed Justice Ahmed Ubangari‑Alaku (retired Chief Judge) as the new Aren Eggon, the paramount traditional ruler of the Eggon Nation, and presented him with the staff of office.

Ubangari‑Alaku was enthroned on 5 May 2023 after Governor Sule approved his selection.

During the ceremony in Nasarawa Eggon Saturday, Sule urged the new royal father to carry out his duties with justice, fairness and a reverence for God.

“Traditional rulers remain indispensable partners in governance and community development. They are custodians of our cultural heritage, promoters of peace and unity, and mediators in conflict resolution,” he said.

The governor explained that his administration has integrated traditional institutions into the governance framework by involving them in government affairs at various levels.

He added that the partnership between government and traditional rulers has greatly contributed to peace, stability and harmonious coexistence among the state’s diverse peoples.

Sule said Ubangari‑Alaku was chosen to succeed the late Aren Eggon, Dr Bala Abaine‑Angbazo, because of his proven leadership and ability to unite the people.

He also asked the new ruler to use his position to promote peace and uphold democratic processes ahead of the June 20 Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye‑election.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of traditional rulers across the state.

In his vote of thanks, Aren Eggon Ubangari‑Alaku thanked the governor for approving his selection and for presenting him with the staff of office.

The former Chief Judge pledged to rule with justice, fairness and a reverence for God for the sake of peace and development.
