Governor Abiodun calls on clerics to pray for peace and unity before the 2027 election.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has called on religious leaders to continue praying for peace, unity and stability in Nigeria before, during and after the 2027 general elections.

He also urged Nigerians to pray for President Bola Tinubu and asked parents to take a more active role in caring for their children as the state marks Children’s Day.

The governor delivered his message on Wednesday after the 2‑rakat Eid prayers at the Lantoro praying ground in Abeokuta.

Senator Shuaibu Afolabi, who represented Ogun Central in the National Assembly, said the state had enjoyed “remarkable peace and development” over the past seven years, thanks to divine support and the prayers of religious leaders.

Abiodun’s message, relayed by Afolabi, contained three main points:

• His administration will complete seven years in office in about two days, leaving one year remaining. He asked clerics to pray that the successes achieved in the past seven years continue in the final year.
• He requested prayers for President Tinubu, hoping for a successful re‑election, and for all candidates in Ogun State, so that the elections remain peaceful and the country stays united before, during and after the process.
• Today is also Children’s Day. He stressed that a well‑raised child benefits both family and nation, urging citizens to nurture the new generation with godliness and virtue.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy across Ogun State’s three senatorial districts before his term ends.

In a sermon, Sheikh Sa’addallah Bamigbola, the Chief Imam of Egbaland, urged Muslims to uphold peace, tolerance, unity and self‑lessness, emphasizing that these values are essential for societal progress and harmonious coexistence.
